Aggies take first game over Wildcats

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kyle Colligan homered and drove in two runs, and Kyle Nicholson held Kansas State to two runs as Texas A&M beat Kansas State 4-2 on Friday night in Game 1 of a three-game Big 12 Conference series.

Nicholson (11-1) struck out nine and pitched a complete game for A&M (39-11, 12-9 Big 12). The A&M senior stopped a Kansas State rally in the ninth, holding the Wildcats to one run in the inning by getting out of a bases-loaded jam.

"We took advantage of some mistakes early to take the lead, and Nicholson was outstanding in a great Friday night matchup," A&M head coach Rob Childress. "We played great defense tonight and got a few big hits, but the story of the night was Kyle."

Brad Hutt (8-4) pitched a complete game for Kansas State (31-18, 9-12), giving up four runs on eight hits and striking out nine.

Byron Wiley hit a solo homer for the Wildcats and Nate Tenbrink was 2 for 4.

Colligan, Craig Stinson and Parker Dalton had two hits each for the Aggies.
