Aggies win series over Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. - David Newmann allowed two hits and struck out seven in six scoreless innings Sunday as No. 13 Texas A&M beat Missouri 5-2.

Luke Anders went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs to lead the Aggies (30-8, 8-6 Big 12), who jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second with back-to-back home runs by Anders and Craig Stinson.

Blake Stouffer's bases-loaded single in the fifth inning drove in two more Aggie runs, and an RBI single by Anders later in the inning made it 5-0.

Missouri (25-11, 7-5) had a chance to cut into the lead in the seventh, when A&M reliever Clayton Ehlert, who was making just his second appearance of the season, loaded the bases with a walk, a hit batter and a bloop single. With nobody out, Ehlert walked Kyle Mach to force in Missouri's first run.

Kirkland Rivers replaced Ehlert and got out of the inning without giving up any more runs, striking out one batter and getting the next to ground into a double play.

Rivers loaded the bases with one out in the eighth with a pair of walks and a hit batter. But the Tigers managed only one run to cut the lead to 5-2 after Parker Dalton dropped an infield pop-up.

Newmann (6-1) got the win for the Aggies, while Greg Folgia (2-3) recorded the loss. Kyle Thebeau retired the side in the ninth to earn his third save for Texas A&M.

"Kirkland did a nice job of coming in a cleaning up the mess in the seventh," Childress said. "Then he came out and made his own mess in the eighth, but Thebeau came in and cleaned that one up."

Texas A&M returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts Houston.
