Aggie softball team beats Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. - Texas A&M snapped Oklahoma's 25-game home winning streak with a 9-4 Big 12 Conference victory Sunday at the OU Softball Complex.

Senior Joy Davis was 3-for-4 batting and Megan Gibson added a three-run homer as the second-ranked Aggies (29-5, 3-2) bounced back from a 4-2 Saturday loss to OU.

"I like the way we came back from a loss and really expected to win today," A&M head coach Jo Evans said. "Yesterday, we had our chances, jumped out and got an early lead but just couldn't hang on. Today, we again got runs early and hit throughout our order. It's just great to see our kids really settle in and feel good about themselves. It was a great team effort."

A&M's four-run first inning was highlighted by Gibson's home run, which was the 39th of the junior's career, tying her for the school lead with Selena Collins.

Gibson knocked in Macie Morrow, who had walked, and leadoff batter Sharonda McDonald, who extended her school-record hitting streak to 20 games.

Davis made it 4-0, scoring on a throwing error after hitting a triple.

The Aggies added another run in the fourth before OU (38-4, 4-2) scored four in the fifth, including a solo home run by Traci Dickenson. A&M freshman left-hander Emily Shadow relieved starter Amanda Scarborough to get the inning's final out.

"I especially thought Emily Shadow did a terrific job in relief today," Evans said. "She gave us two solid innings and really helped us get out of a jam."

A&M made it 6-4 in the sixth on Jami Lobpries' double. The Aggies broke the game open in the seventh with three runs, two coming in on Scarborough's triple.

Scarborough (14-2) pitched the final inning.

Missouri 1, Texas 0: Julie Silvers' two-out RBI single in the sixth lifted the host Tigers (27-17, 3-0) to a weekend sweep of UT (26-9, 2-3), which stranded 11 runners. Tiger pitcher Jen Bruck (11-4) pitched a five-hitter, beating Meagan Denny (17-8).

Baylor 5, Kansas 3: Brette Reagan's two-run double backed the pitching of Kirsten Shortridge (11-3) as the Lady Bears (34-9, 4-0) swept a weekend series at KU (25-11-1, 2-2).

Nebraska 6-4, Texas Tech 0-0: Ashley DeBuhr threw a no-hitter, striking out 13 as the Cornhuskers (26-11, 2-2) completed a sweep of TT (17-19, 0-5).

Oklahoma State 14-10, Iowa State 0-1: The visiting Cowgirls (23-19, 2-2) run-ruled the Cyclones (19-26, 0-4) twice.
