
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Sharonda McDonald scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning to help the third-ranked Texas A&M softball team beat host Florida Atlantic 3-1 in the FAU Parents' Weekend Tournament championship game on Sunday afternoon. A&M improved to 25-3 on the season and got revenge for a 4-0 loss to Florida Atlantic on Saturday, which snapped a 14-game winning streak. The Owls fell to 17-12. Musillo blanked the Aggies on a one-hitter Saturday, striking out 15. FAU took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on two singles, a stolen base and an Aggie throwing error. A&M pitcher Amanda Scarborough tied the game with a home run in the second. McDonald singled to start the sixth inning, extending her hitting streak to 14 games. The speedy McDonald scored from first on a single by Macie Morrow and a throwing error by the centerfielder. Morrow scored when Jamie Hinshaw looped a single into shallow left field. Scarborough retired 14 consecutive batters before giving up a walk to start the seventh. The junior allowed only three infield hits and struck out nine. Scarborough (12-2) was named tournament MVP for the second time in three years after going 3-0 without allowing an earned run and registering 23 strikeouts. The Aggies will visit Texas State at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
