The Oklahoman profiled one player from each school in its Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship preview. The paper profiled A&M forward Morenike Atunrase but ran a picture of La Toya Micheaux. A&M also was featured in USA Today on Wednesday, and the national newspaper correctly matched a picture of Atunrase with its story.
A&M wore its home gray uniforms, which blended in with CU's light gold, making it tough for officials and fans to differentiate between the two teams. The Aggies are now 18-0 in their home grays, which includes a victory over West Virginia on a neutral site.
CU's 15 first-half points marked its lowest first-half output of the season. The Buffaloes had 18 at Texas in a 68-49 loss.
The Buffaloes' 5-of-27 shooting from the field in the first half (18.5 percent) was the worst for any half this season.
The combined 41 first-half points (A&M led 26-15) marked the lowest scoring first half in an Aggie game this season. The previous low was 46 points at Texas (UT led 28-18 and at Oklahoma (OU led 26-20).
The A&M team received a police escort to dinner Monday night, because it ate at A'Quonesia Franklin's cousin's home. Franklin's cousin is a police lieutenant in Oklahoma City.
Big 12 officials gave elementary students in Oklahoma City free tickets to Wednesday's game. Some of the students greeted the A&M bus when it arrived at the Cox Center. After the pregame warmup, A&M head Gary Blair had his players go over to the stands and give the students a thumbs up, trying to get them to cheer for the Aggies.
A&M is 3-10 in the Big 12 Championship, winning back-to-back quarterfinal games for the first time.
Atunrase had a season-high nine rebounds.
A&M's 24 victories are the second most in school history, tying it with the 1974-75 team (24-9). The 1978-79 team was 26-18.
