A&M's victory gives Evans her 700th win

HOUSTON - Macie Morrow homered to help fourth-ranked Texas A&M to a 4-3 victory and a doubleheader sweep of the Houton Cougars.

The one-run victory gave A&M head coach Jo Evans her 700th career Divison I coaching victory.

A&M (21-2) also won the opener 3-0. Houston fell to 17-9.

In the nightcap at the Cougar Softball Stadium, Morrow hit a 3-1 pitch over the center field wall in the seventh inning for the game-winner, a solo homer that broke a 3-3 tie and completed A&M's rally from an early two-run deficit.

"What a great job Macie does in the seventh inning to get up there and get a good hitter's count and then make the most it by hitting a big home run," Evans said. "That was an exciting way to win the ball game."

After giving up back-to-back singles in the bottom of the seventh, A&M starter Megan Gibson coaxed a fly out and a ground out to end the game and earn her ninth victory of the season. Over seven innings of work, Gibson allowed three runs on seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Amanda Scarborough picked up the victory in Game 1, her ninth this season.

A&M scored all three runs in the sixth. After an error brought home the first run, Jamie Hinshaw had a run-scoring single. Scarborough followed with an RBI double that brought home Hinshaw from first base.
